So that way, all medical equipment (including Doppler) are validated and it's known how they work, failure rates, rate of false positives, false negatives, ect.Īt home doppler: most people buy them from cheap companies based out of China, so no regulation. They also need training to keep up to date.Īll medical equipment needs to be maintained according to very specific requirements. Every doppler, pressure cuff, thermometer, MRI machine, anything, has to go through clinical trials (or at least validation), then information submitted to the FDA.Īfter that, technician/OB with the appropriate licenses need to take trainings (from the manufacturer) to know how to operate the equipment. They are amazing and super supportive and I’m so glad I went ahead and asked! UPDATE: I messaged my wonderful midwife’s office and they are going to let me go in tomorrow morning to check the heart tones in their office. Please share your positive stories with me! Has anyone else experienced this and then gone on to have a happy healthy pregnancy?! How long were you in limbo not knowing if your baby was ok or not? The Doppler has been put away and I won’t be touching it again for a long time, if at all. Also, it was still relatively early to try anyway. I’m not a medical professional, it was my first time trying. I keep imagining how I’m going to tell her that her little sister isn’t coming after all. Tons of family know at this point, including our three year old daughter. But now I’m scared to name her not knowing if she’s ok or not. ![]() We know that baby is a girl, and we’re hard at work trying to name her. I feel like I’ve almost become resigned to a negative outcome. Now my next appointment isn’t for another ten days and my anxiety is sky high. Definitely found my own consistently, but no sign of baby. I checked super low, and off to the sides, everything. Tried for a good 10-15 minutes that time, thought I was being extremely thorough. I asked for tips and advice and decided to try one last time Sunday morning on an empty stomach, with a full bladder. ![]() Watched some more videos and tried again a little later, thought I found something, but now I’m pretty sure it was just my (surprisingly fast) heartbeat. I tried using it right when it arrived, no luck. I figured it couldn’t hurt to be prepared, right? After all, my midwife had found the heartbeat at my nine week appointment fairly easily! I ordered a Doppler last week, thinking that my midwife’s office might be moving to telemedicine by my next visit (April 22).
